Tessa Newcomb’s paintings draw on the East Anglian artistic tradition, a lineage she shares with her mother, Mary Newcomb. Her work is characterized by a dreamy, almost ethereal realism that evokes a sense of warmth and nostalgia, while maintaining rich, intricate details.
Newcomb has a remarkable ability to distil complex compositions into seemingly simple scenes. Her attention to detail is captivating, gently guiding the viewer's eye across the canvas, from one side of the picture to the other, making her work endlessly engaging and inviting repeated viewing.
Newcomb studied at Norwich School of Art from 1972 and then earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Bath Academy of Art, followed by advanced printmaking at Wimbledon School of Art. Since her first solo exhibition in 1979 at the Annexe Gallery, her artistic endeavours have spanned various exhibitions and galleries over the years in both London, the East of England, and featured internationally.
