At 102, Anthony Eyton would be forgiven for slowing down. Not so for the prolific painter and Royal Academician, whose new works are the focus of an upcoming exhibition at Browse & Darby this autumn.
Included in the show are studies of his garden and stilllifes such as Birthday Aubergine No. 2 (2025; below, bottom), in which the vegetable – gifted to the artist by a follower of his popular Instagram – sits atop a stool like a kind of puzzle. In Apple with Vase and Pots (2025; below), Eyton’s signature flecked colour and lively brushwork inject a quiet composition with exuberant energy and life.
The show, held in the heart of St James’s, celebrates an artist whose powers of observation remain undimmed, and whose canvases convey a sense of wonder that has accompanied him for a century.
