Browse & Darby is delighted to present an upcoming exhibition of paintings and drawings from The William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation and Family Collections.

William Louis-Dreyfus (1932-2016) assembled an extensive and internationally diverse art collection over a period of five decades, driven by his unique perspective as a poet, businessman, and passionate patron and collector. His personal curatorial vision led him to prioritise aesthetic and intellectual engagement over prevailing market trends, directly sourcing works that aligned with his outlook and appreciation. Over time, this sustained accumulation of art resulted in a collection of considerable scale, depth, and art historical significance.

The exhibition will present works by Edmund Chamberlain, an artist extensively collected by William Louis-Dreyfus. Born in Yorkshire in 1968, Chamberlain studied at Newcastle University, graduating with a First Class BA (Hons). Over the course of his career, he has received significant recognition, including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award (1993) and the Pollock Krasner Foundation Award (1997). He was shortlisted for the Villiers David Prize in 2002, and in 2005 was awarded the prestigious ING Purchase Prize at the Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. His work has also featured in prominent group exhibitions, including the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London, and exhibitions at The Fine Art Society, London and Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge
