Browse & Darby is delighted to announce their upcoming exhibition of works by Ed Gilbert.
Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1965 alongside Zandra Rhodes, Ossie Clark and David Hockney, Ed Gilbert has enjoyed an illustrious and multi-faceted career in the arts. Working across the realms of architecture, garden and interior design, and fine art, Gilbert worked with some of the biggest names of the 20th Century, taking him around the world with clients ranging from Cecil Beaton to NASA and the Marquess of Bath.
Now, at 80 years old, Gilbert’s paintings come back into the spotlight in Then & Now. In association with Flora Fairbairn & Co., this is his first physical exhibition of paintings since 1998, and represents his love of the medium that has been his main focus for many years.
Inspired by the rolling hills of his Wiltshire home, as well as the places he has visited and worked in over the years, these paintings present a variety of moods and atmospheres reflective of a life well lived. As Daisy Bridgewater says, “Drawing on his wild and varied past experiences, Gilbert applies his restless visual flare and obsession with colour and form to the study of remembered and present landscapes and flowers.”
