Linda Ryle predominantly paints from life and incorporates careful lighting to create shadows and relief within her chosen subject.
Ryle paints a variety of subjects, ranging from her home - built in the early 1700s - to objects which particularly speak to her which might include a dried poppy head, or a Chanel carrier bag.
Ryle works from a carefully chosen palette of brilliant turquoises, dusty ochres and shades of grey which create an atmosphere of tranquillity and concentration. The artist likes in particular to focus on capturing light effects: the iridescent gleam of a vase or the delicate shadows of feathers against the wall.
